Independence Day Resurgence (2016)  HD  is a 2016 American science fiction disaster film co-written and directed by Roland Emmerich. It is a sequel to the 1996 film Independence Day. The film takes place twenty years after the events of the first film. Meanwhile, the United Nations has joined forces to establish Earth Space Defense.
